Standard Bank South Africa has launched DigiMe to improve security on its mobile banking app.

According to the bank, there is a need for strong authentication using a combination of two or more factors to verify the identity of a natural person. DigiMe uses biometric and facial recognition software, combined with multi-factor authentication.

It further said this will reduce the number of one-off PINs and other verification methods used in favour of a simpler, approach. When a user sets up DigiMe, their device will be checked to determine which authentication features it supports – including facial and fingerprint recognition. Users will then be given a choice of these supported authentication options to implement as their primary verification method for their digital profile.
